May 16 – June 20, 2012

Facilitators: Brenda Bomgardner, MA, NCC, BCC and  Christine Allison, MA, LPC, NCC

This 6-week training and consultation group for therapists will cover the core processes of ACT – a contextually focused form of cognitive behavioral psychotherapy that uses mindfulness and behavioral activation to increase clients’ psychological flexibility.

Empirical evidence demonstrates ACT’s effectiveness in treating a wide range of disorders, from anxiety, depression, and PTSD, to chronic pain, eating disorders and substance abuse. Effective with individuals, couples and groups, ACT helps clients to live in the present moment, connect with their values, and effectively handle painful thoughts, feelings, memories, sensations and urges.

Studies have shown that ACT training increases therapist effectiveness and reduces therapist burnout. The group will be experiential and participants will have an opportunity to discuss cases.  Training will cover:

You’re Not Who You Think You Are

June 24, from 3:00-5:00, arrive at 2:45 to register

You have probably heard these sayings:

  • I think therefore I am.
  • Learn to think for yourself.
  • Develop your mind.
  • Think harder.

Our society teaches us that thinking is the ultimate human ability. We are encouraged to think logically and to think positively. Of course, thinking skills are very important. But, there’s more to you than your thoughts!

In this workshop you will learn how to connect with that part of you that is separate from your thoughts, a part of you that’s able to observe your mind in action, and is able to notice your mind’s habitual and sometimes self-sabotaging patterns. This is your observing self.

In this workshop, you will learn ways to utilize your observing self and develop psychological flexibility. You will learn to free yourself from the limitations of your thinking mind.

Date/Time: June 24th,

Location: People House, 3035 West 25th Ave., Denver CO 80211

Also, I can bring this workshop to you or your team.

      particular value to them)
    3. Being present (i.e., being able to direct attention flexibly and voluntarily to present  external and internal events rather than automatically focusing on the past or future)

    5. Clarification of values that are personally important
